Le Logos n’est pas en soi une « Parole » ou un « Fils » ou un « Livre » ou un « Bouddha », mais il apparaît respectivement comme tel suivant son mode de manifestation terrestre. En un certain sens la « Trinité», c’est définir Dieu en fonction de Jésus; avant Jésus, point de dogme trinitaire; nous parlons ici des mots, non du sens profond. La conception trinitaire - en tant que dogme - comporte en tout cas le danger d’une attitude qui prête pratiquement à Dieu un caractère relatif, et au monde un caractère absolu. The Logos in itself is neither “Word” nor “Son” nor “Book” nor “Buddha”, but it appears respectively as such according to its mode of earthly manifestation. In a certain sense the “Trinity” is a defining of God in relation to Jesus; before Jesus there was no Trinitarian dogma, though we are speaking here of words and not the deeper meaning of the dogma. In any case the Trinitarian conception—as a dogma—carries with it the danger of an attitude that attributes in practice a relative character to God and an absolute character to the world.
